This week my kids have off for winter recess. I always initially panic before every break. Mostly because I thrive on order and routine. When my girls are home, chaos and disorder erupt! After a day or two, however, I remember how much fun we have together and find myself not wanting our unlimited time to end.
In the summer, I love to plan day trips to new and exciting places, but during the colder months I am unmotivated, petrified of germs, and boring! Where do you think we spent our first day off together? Of course, the MALL! I promised them a day of lunch and shopping. They each picked out some spring attire, junk at Claire’s (I despise that store), and bags of candy. At lunch, we put all devices aside and really engaged. It’s wild to stare into their eyes and see how much they have matured and grown. My babies transformed into little people over night!
Don’t get me wrong. I am human. By Friday, I will become overwhelmed by the strewn clothes, slime stained carpets, and distressing sound of YouTube! I will be calling for reinforcement and counting down the minutes until my sanity is restored. For now, however, I am relishing in these pleasant and all too transient moments.
P.S. I must confess. I am shipping both girls off to grandma and grandpa’s for one night this week! I figured by Wednesday, the estrogen would set in and we would all need a reprieve! Cheers to smart and sensible parenting:)
