Does anyone else torture themselves and tune into the Bachelor each week? I have been a loyal fan since college. I can’t believe this ridiculous reality show has been on the air for over 15 years. What’s even harder to believe, is that I actually graduated from college 15 years ago this May! Man, I am old.
Back to the Bachelor. With the exception of a few seasons, I have faithfully and intently tuned in each Monday night to watch the drama unfold. Lots of tears, fighting, drinking, kissing, skin, and whining encompass a 2 hour episode. It truly is a real life soap opera. The master minds in the editing room do a superb job of making everyone look their worst. The more dramatic characters always manage to get the most air time too. Previews and future clips are always filled with plot twists and turns to keep us craving more each week. It’s an absolute train wreck fans can’t escape!
The contestants are awarded the opportunity of a lifetime. Most would think I am referring to the notion of finding true love. Not quite. The longer they are the “chosen” ones, the more extravagant destinations they get to visit and the more lavish, romantic, and whimsical dates they get to go on. It’s a real life fantasy come true. Who wouldn’t want to take a hiatus from life and travel the world, make new friends, and be wined and dined by a beautiful man or woman?! The whole premise and concept is unrealistic, but I think that’s why we are all sucked in. It serves as an escape from our own mundane lives and provides immense entertainment.
This season is awful. I find Arie uninteresting and the girls just pathetic. Whining, baby talk, and an incessant use of the word “like” are too much to bare. The shallowness has hit an all time low, but of course I will still tune in! It amazes me that some of these couples actually leave this show and survive as husband and wife. The premise is so far-fetched! As super fans, however, we get so entangled and invested. In the end, we root for our favorites and want to believe they will live happily ever after post bachelor land.
Is it bad that I actually follow these characters on social media and even go to some of their book signings?! I told you I was a reality junkie and needed a serious intervention! Mindless television gets me every time.
If you are still reading (lol), I encourage you to take a little time to indulge in some of your own mindless television. I promise you will get a good laugh and relish in your own normalcy!
P.S. If you are an avid reality lover like me, let me know what you are watching. There’s always room to add more chaos to the overflowing list!
