As much as I love color, there’s something about “black” that is so chic and trendy. It’s renowned and recognized for being the safe and slimming hue, but that’s not why I am enamored with it. An accessory fiend, black serves as the perfect canvas for utilizing and having fun with all the colorful accessories you have collected over the years.
After the holidays, I bought an inexpensive black sweater from H&M. Basic and simplistic, I was drawn to the length because it was long enough to pair over leggings. I recently did a closet purge and also realized I had a plethora of tops and sweaters in various colors, but was ironically lacking black! I instantly thought of all the ways I could style this sweater and then came up with an idea.
So many people flock towards black, but never really take advantage of all the interesting ways to style it. Why not take this black sweater and show you how I would style it using a variety of accessories from my own closet.
Look 1. It’s all in the shoe:
I bought these red pumps over a year ago and have been smitten ever since. Not the most comfortable, I save them for special occasions and kid-less adventures! My comfy sweater and faux leather leggings were transformed with this pop of color. I took it one step further and added my Baublebar red earrings to the mix. Just enough to give it some exciting flair. Fashion jewelry and colorful shoes are a must-have!
Look 2. Patterned scarves or a statement necklace
For a more casual and sophisticated look, I added one of my favorite scarves to the same “all black” ensemble. Throw on a sneaker or a boot and you are ready to tackle the day fashionably, yet more relaxed. If scarves are too restricting or you break out in a sweat trying to master them (this happens to me often), then opt for a vibrant necklace instead. Statement necklaces are also good at drawing attention away from those problem areas (thanks to our kids), and emphasizing our neck and face instead.
Look 3. Bold and daring
I have two very loud, yet trending coats in my closet. They are not my go-to jacket for picking the kids up from school, but I look forward to wearing them at night or when I get dressed up. They look fabulous over all black, with a heel or bootie. These colors and patterns are so bold that everything underneath needs to be uncomplicated, effortless, and more practical. Too many patterns are obnoxious and overwhelming. Granted, leopard and faux fur may not be your cup of tea, but there are plenty of patterned blazers and colorful jackets that would easily suffice. It’s important to have a few non-black items in your wardrobe. They will serve you well for styling purposes.

I hope this styling guide was somewhat informative and helpful. I would love to make this a regular feature on my blog. Your input, inquiries, and questions would be greatly appreciated. I am here to assist and guide in all your styling and fashionable needs!
