School of Rock

Apr 13, 2018

It’s evident that I am extremely passionate about the arts.  An avid theater lover, Broadway shows are my leisure.  Unfortunately, hectic schedules and hefty ticket prices have made it harder to frequent my favorite pastime.  Needless to say, when the opportunity to see a show presents itself, I am there!

Over the weekend, my parents were gracious enough to take my girls and I to see School of Rock.  Gianna has been fortunate enough to see numerous Broadway shows over the past few years, but this would be Mia’s first.  Excited was an understatement.  She could barely contain herself.   First stop: Target.  My little fashionista needed a new outfit for this memorable event and she used her tooth fairy money to make it happen.  We decided to purchase the tickets on a whim and head to the box office a few hours before the show.  Normally we plan way in advance, so this was rather risky for my proactive family.  Thankfully, our strategy was successful and we snagged very reasonably priced orchestra tickets.

If you haven’t seen this show, I highly recommend adding it to your list.  The entire cast was primarily children, and the talent was overwhelming.  Not only did they sing and dance, but many of the children actually played instruments live on stage.  Impressive and inspiring on so many levels.  The high energy level and commitment from the entire cast was superb.  Throughout the show, I grew emotional.  Watching their ambitions unfold on stage and feeling their passion throughout every musical number was ineffable.  They are living proof that dreams do come true.  Every now and then I looked over at my own girls.  They too were transfixed.  Mia loved all the music and seeing the kids perform on stage.  Gianna, however, internalized the entire show on a much deeper and personal level.  She was humbled by their talents but now even more motivated than before.  She walked out of the theater doors serious and driven to make this world her own reality.  I am so thankful that I can reward my children with these invaluable experiences.  Not to mention, it was yet another fabulous girls’ day in the books!

Her smile says it all. She can’t wait to wear her shirt to school next week!
Despite the frigid temps, it was the perfect day!
