As my girls get older, it’s rewarding to witness their triumphs and support their aspirations. I love that Gianna is so passionate about the arts and Mia so fashion forward and savvy. I encourage them to never give up on their dreams and I vow to help them as much as possible. I don’t recall, however, having their same drive and discipline. Hence, it took me this long to become a blogger!
Outside of my girls, I am also impressed with some of their friends’ accomplishments. At such young ages, they have quickly molded into talented artists, athletes, dancers, and gymnasts. The amount of hard work, endless rehearsals, practices, and private lessons are quite inspiring.
One friend in particular, touched my heart. It’s not very often that you hear a 7-year-old declare her desire to start a blog and design clothes, but not every girl is like Keira Havel. Gregarious, bright, humorous, jovial, and beyond adorable, Keira’s personality is contagious. Her presence is electrifying and she has a natural way of making everyone just smile. I am confident that one day she will be famous. Her quick wit (inherited by her awesome mommy), deserves national attention and acclaim. I incessantly offer to step in as her agent, but realistically, Keira doesn’t need my help. She’s going to make it big on her own!
When it was brought to my attention that she was a budding fashion blogger on her way to starting her own blog, I grew giddy. I thought it would be interesting to pick her brain, ask her some questions, and take some pictures. Typically, all of my blogger friends are over 30, so this would be a unique experience!
Keira decided to select two outfits from her own closet for the photo shoot. After, we would sit down and chat. I learned that beyond having an innate ability to piece outfits together, she also loves to design! I can’t even draw a stick figure, yet this little cutie has a book of sketches where all her coveted creations reside. Impressive much?!
Keira is a natural. She nailed all the infamous blogger poses and her facial expressions are on point. I asked if she wanted to portray her funny side, but she opted for serious shots all around! She was professional, focused, and idea driven. I chose the location, but she voiced her opinion throughout. She had her agenda mapped out beforehand, and I enjoyed seeing it come to life.
Keira wanted this experience to be as real and raw as possible. This meant fighting through the frigid temps (jacket-less) and even changing in the car! She truly was the consummate professional!
After a successful shoot, we chatted over Starbucks. Below are a series of questions I asked her. The genuineness behind each answer is so endearing. Her responses warmed my heart.
This fashion adventure taught me a lot. If a 7 year old can be this brave, vulnerable, and determined, I better step up my game. I can’t wait to read her first blog post, but more importantly wear her first design. “Would you like me to put together an outfit for you?” I can’t sew, but I am sure my grandmother can make it in your size?” You know what Keira, that sounds like a wonderful idea:)
