I never shy away from an opportunity to play dress up with my girls. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, it seemed fitting for a mother/daughter photo shoot. I love a good stylized shoot, theme and all. I have taken many pictures featuring a foliage backdrop and even dared the city. I was looking to travel down uncharted territory this time. I wanted an urban theme with fun dresses and colored walls. After visiting Lu Lu Belle Boutique in Closter, my vision started coming to life.
Firstly, if you love fashion and dressing your kiddies in unique outfits, I highly recommend frequenting Lu Lu Belle Boutique. It’s a haven of fashion goodness. I was introduced to the owner, Laura, through a mutual blogger friend. When we arrived, she gave my girls the royal treatment. They had so much fun trying on the new Spring merchandise. As I was perusing the boutique, I came across the fabulous Ooh La La Couture section, and knew these dresses would be perfect for my shoot. I just had to have them. I decided that a wardrobe change was essential (lol) and opted for two different dresses for both my girls. The first option: light pink and green dresses representative of Spring. They would also compliment the off white dress I planned on wearing. Typically, black wouldn’t have been my second outfit choice, but I was swooning over these black tutu dresses and couldn’t resist. I recently purchased a black polka dress at Target. My mind started racing. I could immediately envision us together side by side! I was so excited.
Our wardrobes were officially intact. Next on the agenda: location. My right hand gal Erin would figure this out for me. I sent her pictures of the final looks and explained my vision. Within minutes, she came up with a genius location: an ice cream shop! The vibrant walls and carefree venue were exactly what I was hoping to portray.
I studied the weather forecast vigorously. I was elated to find out that Spring like temperatures were predicted for Friday the 13th. It was officially on the calendar. I really wanted to achieve the ultimate stylized shoot, so it was obvious who I needed to call next. My hairdresser, Tracy, would be the last player in operation: Mother’s Day Shoot. She is the master and my saving grace. She gave me the ultimate blowout and I asked her to braid the girls’ hair. Every last detail was crucial. She exceeded my expectations and even added some color to seamlessly tie everything together. We were officially on our way!
We had a blast. Erin’s talents certainly didn’t go unnoticed. She directed us perfectly and worked tirelessly to make sure she achieved my inspiration. A day filled with ice cream, fancy dresses, beautiful weather, and unforgettable moments with my girls. I will cherish these pictures forever!
I strongly implore you to step out of your comfort zone and get in some pictures with your kids. They are only little once. As moms, our selflessness can get the best of us. Emerge from the background and into the spotlight ladies. Put on a fun outfit, pamper yourself, and strut your beautiful you in front of the camera! I promise, your children will appreciate this experience together immensely. In time, these images will be all that’s left of all too fleeting memories.
